Sunday poll

OK, a two-part question for my Sunday poll.

1. If tomorrow, Labor Day, you had a job that you were so excited to do that you would skip Labor Day to go in and do it, what would it be?

2. Why aren’t you doing that job?

I pose this question as someone who is not doing what I would love to be doing because of financial constraints. I have put myself in a position where I need my job to support our lifestyle. I’m just curious why everyone else isn’t doing what they love…

    Sadly, I actually did go to work for several hours on Bank Holiday Monday last week. Even though I love my job, its sad because no one should let their job define them.

    I can’t imagine what that job would be….
    Ok, I got one – if I was independantly wealthy and managing my own finances, then I would turn on the computer on a holiday to check and see how the investments were doing :) .

    In all seriousness, I’m discovering that I love writing, and I’ve known for a long time that I love being a stay at home mom. So I’m already doing my dream job. :)

    I would love to open a yarn store…and I wouldn’t work on labor day because I was able to spend time with my boyfriend :)

    Thanks for all the responses. Just to add to that discussion, if I was doing anything I wanted to it would be “full-time writer” – blogging or writing for magazines/newspapers/etc. However, just about anything that didn’t require sitting around in an office environment 8-10 hours per day would be fine. I didn’t have to work this Labor Day, but back in my Big 4 days I worked many, many a holiday – plus often 7 day weeks, 12 hour days. I certainly didn’t love that job, although I must have had a passion of some sort for it to put up with that abuse…

    And while I’m not writing as a way of making a living NOW I will be … soon! That’s my goal. So maybe by Labor Day 2009 or 2011 or so I’ll be able to report back that I’m hard at work, but happy to be doing it.
