I traveled to a remote (by my standards) western New Jersey branch office of my New York-based client yesterday.  First of all, it reminded me eerily of Office Space – a quiet, glassy building surrounded by parking lots and fountain-sprouting pools.  It was cool and clean and neat and soulless inside.  I very honestly couldn’t decide whether I liked it or not.  It was so quiet, and so spacious – yet it was really oppressively quiet and the uniformity of the cubicle farm made me think of the Matrix.  I guess the further out into middle America you go, the more spread out the offices become, but there’s a loss of the community that builds up in the more compact office space in Manhattan.  It was an interesting contrast.   Some links:

  • Keeping up with the neighbors….: Saving Diva has a summary of an article at CNN Money that’s just painful to read. I couldn’t agree with her more – what are people doing hiring a full-time employee when they have almost $40,000 in credit card debt? Read it, you’ll be as shocked as she (and I) were. • Frugal Ways To Get In Shape: Kyle has a good idea: don’t spend a lot of money getting fit. Being fit saves you even more money – your clothes fit, you don’t get sick as much and you don’t consume as much food. Does the phrase “win win” appeal to anyone?
