532792143 668507f515 linklings and a giveaway

This week I have a giveaway to go along with the roundup.
The giveaway comes from NURU Personal Finance (http://nuruplanet.com).  NURU Personal Finance is a deck of 30 ultra-thin, waterproof, and durable pocket-sized plastic cards with information to help empower Americans to make strong financial decision.  Topics on the cards include: investing, loans, credit, insurance, retirement vehicles, etc.  The knowledge we provide isn’t about “getting rich quick.” It’s about better understanding how the system works so that we can fight debt, and make intelligent, calculated choices toward a solid financial future. Those who purchase Personal Finance will be able to access the deck’s content on their mobile phone or computer with a special code.

All you have to do to win is leave a comment on this post, and I’ll pick two comments at random to win a deck.  Make sure you leave a  valid email address!

On to the links, from the Money Writers and others:
Are You Part of the Gig Economy? If Not, You Might Want to Start Thinking About It Now:  I’m part of the gig economy – definitely.

Save Money on Valentine’s Day (17 Tips Inside):  Not just money-saving tips, but good tips for brainstorming…

Tax Forms, Tax Brackets, Tax Credits, Tax Software, and More!:    Ugh.  Can’t believe it’s that time of year again.

Recession Sacrifices Only Go So Far:  Same here.  I still haven’t canceled satellite TV despite being unemployed.

Free Domain Name from GoDaddy.com with Purchase at Buy.com:  Get yourname.com, at least.  You never know if you’ll need it in the future.

Taking Income Tax Deductions? Track Tax Receipts When You Itemize:  Some good ideas here about – again – ugh, tax time.

How to Take Advantage of the Market After the Crash of 2008:  If there’s a bright spot in this storm, it is that brighter times may lie before us.

2008 Tax Information: All in One Place: Nice summary of limits/amounts applicable to 2008 taxes (and congrats on yet another baby on the way!)

Underemployed Equal to Unemployed?:  Is it the same?  Is crappy employment equal to NO employment?

Can Comment Rage Kill Real People?: I have two blogs; this one is far more successful but the other one’s in my “real name.” Occasionally I think about linking the two and revealing my identity on this blog and then I read something like this. Is TechCrunch really that important that people want to kill people who work there?

Share Your Favorite Financial Websites and Win $50: A very easy contest to win over at Moolanomy – share your favorite financial websites and you can win up to $50. That’s it. Easy money!

Great post and links. The gig economy idea is definitely interesting. And the idea of starting now, even if you are already fully employed so that you have alternatives makes sense, too. Thanks for the great post.

I really enjoyed the underemployment link. I haven't been a reader of FreeMoneyFinance, but I just became one.

That comment rage thing is interesting. Have you received any death threats (credible or not) for either of your identities? I guess it's bound to happen eventually, if a blog keeps growing. Hopefully, most of these people aren't serious.

I haven't received any death threats – fortunately – but I could see it heading in that direction easily. I've received a fair number of hateful and vitriolic emails and comments, and I'm hardly a huge-traffic blogger. I can't imagine what type of things bigger sites receive. It must be frightening, and if I was in the position where I needed security, etc. I'd probably be ready to hang it up.

As a musician/freelance polyglot, I find the gig economy post really interesting. My only question (in econbabble) is: how does one “smooth” the inherent volatility in one's “weathstreams” when one chooses this type of employment strategy?
