linklings: a pregnant moment edition
Here is a brief roundup of a few posts of note around the internet. I don’t remember which blog had this idea, but there was a meme for “one sentence for 2007.” That got me thinking of a funny story I picked up somewhere around the internet – sorry I can’t give proper credit, I don’t remember where it came from. A professor asks his class to write the shortest possible story they can that combines mystery, sex and religion. The winner?
“My God, I’m pregnant! I wonder who the father is?”

» Prosper Blog Wins 2007 Performancing Reader’s Choice Best Use of a Corporate Blog
- I won an award! Er… I mean we won an award. The Prosper blog is already one of the single most dominant forces of the blogosphere. I don’t know why I keep doing that…. Winning the 2007 Performancing Reader’s Choice Best Use of a Corporate Blog award was a nice notice for all of us, although in my case for example I’ve only contributed one post so far. I’m very pleased to be associated with Prosper, and we do have a great bunch of writers for the blog.
You don’t have to pay for your child’s college education | rocket finance
- I had similar thoughts. I think there is a building assumption in the US that parents somehow owe their children a college education. That’s a complete fallacy. Parents owe their children the tools to achieve a college education, but not the funds to pay for it. Paying for it yourself is the result of a focused high school education or a disciplined early adulthood.
My Success as a Prosper Borrower
- I think in the PF blogger world, the focus in regards to Prosper is always on lending, lending lending. Here’s a great story from a borrower, and it validates (for me) why I’m ON Prosper in the first place. I hope it helps people – I hope by cutting out the middleman I’m getting a better return and the people I lend to are getting a better rate. Something like this gives me hope that it’s working out the way I want it to. (Disclaimer: I am a writer for the Prosper Blog).
The Wastrel Show: Money Moves Friday.
- “My dad lost one million dollars in the stock market in 2001. Yes, you heard me right! But he had 10 more million to go, so he used to go around bragging to everyone that he lost the million. ” This is my nightmare scenario – the market robs me blind. Again. And again. If you’re an investor, this post is going to make you nervous – which makes it required reading.
- If you aren’t a blogger, skip this one. If you are a blogger, read it. Now. It’s a fascinating look at how the top bloggers spend their time. I learned a lot from this one. I was going to highlight bits and pieces to put here on my blog and realized I needed to copy the whole article. I loved what Rowse and Babuta wrote. Skellie’s stuff was dead on, too. Read it. Now.
Seven Things You Must Do to Prepare for An Emergency
- Let’s face it – nothing bad is EVER going to happen to YOU, right? Right? Er, right. Lazy Man has a good list of tips on preparing for the day when an emergency comes. That’s when, not if. And if you are in the 1% of people who cruise through life without ever seeing natural or manmade disasters, you can have a big blowout flashlight/canned goods/AM radio party right before you die. So you’ve got that going for you.
