@retiredsyd: I think it's pretty simple – if I had stayed in my small Southern town my whole life, I might have been the next William Faulkner, but I couldn't have been the next Barry Hannah. Faulkner never left his home town, practically, and Hannah went to New York for most of his adult life. Travel makes you different. Not better or worse, just different. Glad we agree!
