After suffering through the remnants of a hurricane yesterday and the continued horrific story of being ripped off by a furniture company - yes, these things still happen in today’s America - we escaped to the mountains. I’m doing my best to decompress. Moving two little kids to a cabin in the mountain seemed to involve the accumulation of enough supplies for the 6th armored cavalry. However, once we got up here and made it through a trip to Wal-Mart for food and a quick shot at fishing, we settled down a good quick frozen pizza dinner and some box wine on the deck overlooking the lake.
As all of this went down, we contemplated the end of American capitalism and the irony of a hardcore “conservative” leading the greatest expansion of government power, the two largest bailouts in history, government spending hitting all-time highs and government’s intrusiveness in our lives. At the same time, we were happy to have this moment of peace in the midst of the maelstrom, when so many other people are jobless.
I managed to swipe an unsecured wireless connection so it appears my link to the web will continue this week. Here’s my question, though - how many days does it take to start feeling relaxed on vacation? For me, it usually takes about 3 before I actually decompress. We’ll see this time, but so far the lake and the cold mountain air and the isolation agree with me, so maybe it will be quicker this time.
