linklings, peace on earth edition
Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday. We spent it in the traditional fashion – our mixed Jewish/Christian family visited our good friends (my wife’s best friend) – who happen to be Muslim – and their new baby. I don’t draw much from this experience other than to say that New York is one of the few places I’ve seen on the planet where a Jewish-Christian couple would spend Christmas visiting with Muslim friends. There’s hope.
A few links for weekend reading:
List of 50 Largest Mutual Fund Companies Ranked by Assets for 2008: Not that assets is a reliable indicator of success, but it does indicate crowd wisdom.
The Price of a World Series Championship: Oh, New York, New York. At least we didn’t have to buy a championship in football in 2008. We’ll always have Phoenix.
The Best Colleges for Your Money: Interesting stats – state universities fare well.
Frugal Tip: Use a Credit Card: I’ve used a credit card my whole life to manage spending. If you’re not someone addicted to credit, a credit card is an exceptionally useful tool.
Establish a Christmas Savings Fund for Next Year: Time to start thinking about Christmas 2009! (Argh)
Warren Buffett’s Granddaughter: This story was both sad and stupid – if you’re an adopted-then-divorced-daughter of a multi-billionaire, don’t irritate him needlessly….
Money Saving Ideas From The Ultimate Cheapskate’s Road Map To Riches: A few good ideas about saving money never hurt any of us.
Adventures in Digging: A strange, sad cautionary story about the dangers of digging (just kidding!).
MyCorporation Reviews: I continue to worry about the issue of incorporating, so I’m always interested in online solutions.
AIG’s rescue has a long way to go – Dec. 23, 2008: Chilling. The end is not near. The US will HAVE to give up eventually.
christian owner: There’s a spirited debate going on at Quest for Four Pillars – I chimed in, although I always cringe at dipping into religious-related debates.
My post on saving was (very kindly) selected as an editor’s pick at the Carnival of Personal Finance #184.
Enjoy what’s bound to be a slooow weekend!
