• Steve, I have no doubt you will keep going. Still, it's a tough gig to lose it all suddenly, and hopefully some of those people were prepared for this awhile ago and already had a plan in place.

I saw the writing on the wall at my last job and got out right before things got really bad. They are still afloat, but for how long? No one really knows. I left for a better position with more responsibility, better benefits, and a higher salary. I was fortunate. Some of my former coworkers have already been let go.

Still, in these uncertain times, I am working on diversifying my income streams, padding my emergency fund, and reducing expenses. You can never be too careful.

Good to see you keeping on top of your skills... A lot of people won't do that, then they will blame the "system" when they can't find work. ;)
  • yes, i know this, good news...

Accounting may not be sexy, but that was a moving and well written post, it really speaks to the time. Thank you.

I've been on the receiving end of that, and I like the way you word it. I've been laid off / let go / fired three times in my career, and while it's always stressful, it isn't the end of the world. I've always been back on my feet within a few weeks.

It sound like you're currently consulting with AIG. I think they will survive, though in a substantially different form.
  • As I was waiting for my door to be repaired yesterday, I was watching the breakfast news. I felt sorry for the people at Canary Wharf who turned up to find that they had no jobs, but they were still in shock so weren't depressed yet. Worse were the images from Wall Street with the quite young kids taking out their things in cardboard boxes - so forlorn.
  • First, as a recovering accountant, there are no sexy accounting issues.

Lehman's bankruptcy is a good thing in the long run. Every now and then capitalism goes to far and garbage needs to be cleaned out. The sooner the better.
