Linklings of a slow August weekend
August really should just be a national holiday. The whole month is really a waste if you work in a corporate environment. Two-thirds of my co-workers are taking staggered vacation, so at any given time half the people you need for meetings are gone.
Here are a few great posts snatched from the electronic ether:
Money Day: Your Personal Finance Holiday from Get Rich Slowly. I like this idea a lot, particularly considering my thoughts on finance. Carve out one day, once in a while, and devote it solely to getting your financial affairs in order, up to date and out of the way. I spend a lot of evenings getting started organizing, but taking one full day to do it all (a weekday when everyone is ‘in business’) is a much more efficient idea.
Your Long Commute May Cost You More Than Time and Money from Generation X Finance. Nice analysis of something I obsess about far too often. I think Americans have an attitude towards commutes of “that’s just the way it is.” It shouldn’t be the way it is, and this post will tell you why.
There Will Be No Flashing Green Light, OK? from My Two Dollars. I am a compulsive over-analyzer. I think that’s almost a prerequisite if you want to blog on any subject – you can beat the same topics up day after day after day. But that attitude can really hold you back in life, and posts like this are a good reminder why you sometimes have to hit the gas even when there is no green light.
Thoughts from a SF renter has Repairing relationships and the lessons I’ve learned. It’s a nice article with some really poignant thoughts on lessons she learned from her father, but they are lessons anyone could learn from.
Enjoy!
