linklings, the dollar’s hard knock life

As the sludge and semi-icy weather finally hit the northeast, I managed to come down with a mini-head cold. Surprisingly it’s not so much the cold as the drugs I’m taking that are bothering me. I hate the drowsy, sleepy feeling that even “non-drowsy” drugs give me. Then again, I hate being a mouth-breather even more.
Here are a few good links from around and about. I should also follow up to last Saturday’s post and admit that the Patriots are indeed a slightly better team than the Jets. Slightly.
I should also point out that I find the financial news very disturbing in the US today. I’ll post more on this later, but the economic trends are not good. Jay-Z is flashing euros instead of dollars in videos and supermodels won’t take Uncle Sam home with them anymore. Not good (launches a YouTube video). If we’ve lost Jay-Z and Gisele, the center may not hold.

Bad career advice: Do what you love » Brazen Careerist by Penelope Trunk
- Penelope writes an interesting piece on something I also chimed in on recently - don’t expect to find complete happiness through your work. I’m sure it happens for some people, but frankly expecting your work to make you deliriously happen just isn’t realistic and that, in itself, will make you less happy. Find what’s good in your work and enjoy that, and try to ignore the rest.
2007 PF Blogger Net Worth Comparison | Million Dollar Journey
- Frugal Trader has a list of the net worths of some personal finance bloggers. Almost as interesting as the list (only one millionaire in the bunch) were some of the comments on this post. The commentary ended up drifting onto the topic of whether or not the value of your home should be included in net worth. Worth throwing in your two cents if you’re so inclined.
The Real Benefit of Tax Deferred Accounts » The Dividend Guy Blog
- This article actually made me chuckle slightly. The real benefit to tax-deferred accounts isn’t tax deferral? What is it, then? The Dividend Guy has a clever answer.
The Rules of LIP Living And Being Location Independent | Location Independent
- I’m still very interested in this concept of location-independent living. I think I am actually aiming more - in the short term - for schedule-independent living, but in the long term I would love to be able to be location independent. This is a good starting point for what location-independent means.
Carnival of Personal Finance: Naughty or Nice Edition ∞ Get Rich Slowly
- Get Rich Slowly did a nice job with the latest Carnival of Personal Finance; as always there are a million great articles there! And I do mean one million articles.
carnival of money stories blog carnival #39
- I also had an article included at the Carnival of Money Stories over at Time To Budget. Always interesting articles there, since it’s a slightly more personal take on personal finance - more chatty, more like tales of personal finance…”stories,” if you will.
