As a public sector employee, I don't have a huge salary (although it's quite respectable), but, unless my whole state defaults, I can look forward to a stable pension for the rest of my life. Why doesn't everyone want to be a public servant? Really, I don't understand why it's so hard to get intelligent young people to defer gratification: a smaller salary now, a guaranteed income for life.
