I enjoy cooking, BUT..... I do not like the prep work - cutting, dicing, slicing, etc...so any kitchen tool that can simplify and speed up the process is welcome in my house! One of the major kitchen tools that I got was the Food Processor (9 cup volume). It is one of the newer models from Kitchen Aid. I love that thing, it can do all sorts of operations. Here comes another "BUT": it is heavy, bulky, I keep it in a cabinet, the cleaning is not so easy. Thus, it makes me less likely to use it. However, when I do use it I maximize the use by not only chopping food for a meal I am cooking but also for future meals. I store the chopped, diced, sliced veggies in the freezer or refrigerator. That is why my food processor is worthwhile to own.

Ok, did I justify the "necessity" to have the kitchen tools like that???? I don't know. I hope so, but even I AM not 100% sure ;o)

I agree that kitchen appliances and utensils have become overwhelming. I recently looked through a Williams-Sonoma catalog...not only are these things ridiculous (and I wouldn't even know what to do with half of them), but they're pretty expensive! I'll keep my $50 and choose not to purchase the pastry cutter.
