building wealth in the pursuit of happiness

ah, the linklings… smells like victory edition

By the time this hits the presses I’ll be on the road towards a massive gathering of my clan - all of the ‘new people’ gathered in one place.  Nothing quite as fun, yet exhausting, as gathering multiple toddlers in a single location.

As usual, there are a few posts I read that I liked well enough to share.  I do put a lot on my Tumble Log during the week, so check that out as well.

Moolanomy covers the Seven Deadly Sins of Personal Finance.  I always appreciate an original take on personal finance, and this is a clever way to look at some of the mistakes you can make.  Seven was an awful movie though - the ending was far too depressing for me.

Recycling, Reusing, and trying to reduce at Saving for a Home of My Own was a nice take on one of my posts.  I’m not perfect in regards to the 3Rs - I hope I never give that impression.  SD has a few good ideas on the ways she’ll attempt to modify her lifestyle.  Hey - a few changes here, a few changes there, and we might actually change something, right?

Freelance Switch has Independents Hall.  This is what I’m aiming for, to be honest.  Maybe not the exact atmosphere, but at least the general mindset.  In any case, this is a very interesting look at a way of living that’s completely foreign to a lifelong child of the corporation like me.

Who Hates Robert Kiyosaki? Here’s My Take On The Backlash at Money Socket.  Oh boy.  Love him or hate him, I bet you have an opinion on him.  Personally I’m a fan.  I don’t take everything he says as the gospel, but I think he’s an inspirational figure.

At No Impact Man there’s  Living in gratitude instead of desire.  I struggle with this nonstop.  I am very fond of the Buddha’s admonition that "desire is the root of all suffering."  Bubelah absolutely hates that line, since she’s a proponent of creative visualization.  I have thought about both takes at length.  I don’t know what the answer is, but No Impact Man has a very insightful article about his take on it.

Productivity Tip: How to use a digital timer to get things done at Millionaire Mommy Next Door is one of those ideas that’s so simple, yet seems so effective, that I will never implement it.  For some reason, if it’s really effective, simple and cheap it’s hard to actually do it.  In all seriousness, I’ll get around to doing this although I’m sure I’ll have to find some bells-and-whistle web download to do it.  As a side note, I have to say that the more I read this blog the more I like it.  It’s definitely becoming one of my favorite stops on the Interpipes.

Over at My Two Dollars there’s Moving Is Going To Save Us A Ton Of Money And Improve Our Quality Of Life.  Yep, I think about this almost non-stop, too, and I’m sure my little family is going to have to do this someday, as well.  There’s just no way to live on the coasts these days unless you’re willing to sacrifice your time and health.  Trust me, I would move back to Manhattan tomorrow if it was economically feasible - but it’s not, and it may never be again.

And in a little bit of a departure, Lazy Man…and Health, not Money! has Sleep and The Three Bears.   I was going to sleep at 10:30 with my wife and waking up at 7 with my son and felt really dazed and groggy for about 6 months, when I finally decided to switch back to my more natural pattern of sleep at midnight, wake at 5 or 6.  I have felt so much more relaxed and rested - with LESS sleep.  Go figure.  They say supergeniuses like Mozart got by on 3 or fewer hours of sleep per night.  Maybe I should start writing concertos instead of blog posts…

Finally, I started using LiveWriter for blog post publishing thanks to an article by Daily Blog Tips called Improve Your Workflow.  I’m still not 100% sure I’ll stick with it, but so far it’s made formatting and layout significantly easier, plus all of my blogs - Wordpress and Blogger - are in one place.  I don’t like going to Blogger to update those blogs, but now that I have this maybe I can start hammering away at my other two blogs and finally launch my "professional" blog as well.  So at least give it a try.  So far I like it.
